    Sinai House

Visit to Sinai House August 9th 2007

The history of Sinai goes back 2000 years starting life as a roman fortification and being in its time a saxon stronghold, a monks holiday home and the Marquis of Angleseys hunting lodge.

Until the 1950's the house had comprised six dwellings but was declared unsafe, forcing the owners to move out. The house then passed through several owners until the present owner took charge of the property in 1994.

My father lived in part of this house as a boy with his parents and siblings during the 1940's. There had been several other families living in different parts of the house at this time. They all worked for the owner of the estate. From the 1970's the building was used to house pig's My farther would take us for walks up to the house when we were Children during the 1980's. I remember it being full of pigs then. My father would point out to us which part of the house they had lived in and would also tell us how haunted the house was. One paricular story stay's in my memory of how one of the men from another family living in the house had been intriged by part of the house unoccupied, so had gone up into the attic area to enter this part of the the house secretly, apparently when he returned he was deathly white and shaking saying he had seen the ghost of a woman up there. My father said he was never the same after that day and suffered with his nerves and became very ill and shortly after died.. There were varoius other stories he would tell us and would also show us where he had carved his initials in the bridge that crossed the moat surrounding the house.

Over the past couple of years it has become a haven for historians, psychics and ghost hunters its reputation as a haunted house has been enhanced strongly by paranormal events taking place to the numerous general members of the public including people hearing knocking on the walls for no apparent reason, being pushed, pulled and touched by something while in vigil in the cellar area. Alarms on cars and various electrical items going wrong while people are visiting the property and the smell of burning coming from the building when nothing is on fire.

Sinai has reputedly 168 ghosts some of these include a murderous monk, a regiment of ghost soldiers, the white lady, the angry abbot, hung witches, a sad mother and many many more. needless to say Sinai is very haunted and was investigated by Most haunted in 2005 with astonishing results.

It was great to go back and see Sinai after all these years. It was amazing to see what the new owners have done to the building so far. It bought back a lot of fond childhood memories of our lovely long walks with dad who sadly passed away 21 yrs ago. We had a 2 hour tour which included a ghost and psychic walk. It was really interesting to hear more about the History of the house. Sadly our fathers initials are no longer on the bridge as some of the bridge has fallen down. The spookiest part of the walk was down in the cellar, they switched all the lights off and we had to stand there in silence. I felt something brush against my arm and the tempreture in the cellar kept changing dramaticly. It was quite errie.
